Facebook is launching a new Watch service which will take on the likes of Amazon and YouTube as well as TV networks. Facebook continues to creep up its original content with Watch, a platform introduced today for shows, and a new type of short-form video on the social media juggernaut. Co-founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg’s company said it is a platform for all creators and publishers to find an audience, build a community of fans and earn money for their work. Here the users will also be able to create “Watchlists”, see what their friends are watching, and communicate with other people interested in the same videos. It has sections like “Most Talked About” and “What’s Making People Laugh”.
Speaking about the new platform ‘Watch’, Nick Grudin. VP, Media Partnerships at Facebook said, “As more and more people enjoy this experience, we have learned that people like the serendipity of discovering videos in News Feed, but they also want a dedicated place they can go to watch videos. That’s why last year we launched the Video tab in the U.S., which offered a predictable place to find videos on Facebook. Now we want to make it even easier to catch up with shows you love.” Facebook shows are believed to be successful as… Shows that engage fans and community. Live shows that connect directly with fans. Shows that follow a narrative arc or have a consistent theme. Live events that bring communities together.
