While the whole Indian film fraternity is singing praises on the humongous success of Baahubali 2 which collected over 1500 crores and inching towards 2000 cr mark, Bollywood director Anil Sharma prefers to differ. He said that the movie is yet to set a record in terms of collections in India. Anil Sharma, the director of Sunny Deol’s superhit movie ‘Gadar – Ek Prem Katha’ was present at the launch of his son Utkarsh’s debut film ‘Genius.’
When asked about his take on Baahubali 2 becoming the first ever Indian movie to cross the 1000 cr mark in Indian cinema history, the director said it’s just a matter of time. He even rated his 2001 blockbuster ‘Gadar – Ek Prem Katha‘ far better in terms of collections than Baahubali 2. He emphasized that ‘Gadar – Ek Prem Katha’ has had done a business of 265 crore, which as per today’s calculation is Rs 5,000 crore. “As mentioned, ‘Gadar’ had done a business of Rs 265 crore in 2001 when the ticket rates were Rs 25 only. As per valuation, it is Rs 5,000 crore today and ‘Bahubali 2’ has just reached some Rs 1,500 crore, so no record has been broken,” Anil Sharma added.
